A refinery in southeastern Alabama has found 1,300 pounds of oil that could be used to fuel the production of cooking oils.
The refinery discovered the oil in the trash of a factory in Montgomery County.
“It’s a very unusual occurrence, and I would expect it to be more common than this,” said Scott Cogdell, a refinery spokesman.
“We are just a small refinery that is very well connected to the region and its power grid.
The majority of our production is produced in our facility.”
The refinery, owned by Sunoco Logistics, found the oil about four miles from the plant.
The company said it notified state regulators and was working with state health officials to determine the exact amount of oil.
Sunoco has about 1,200 employees and employs about 7,500 people in Alabama.
